About the role
The incumbent should in the context of a longitudinal relationship, fulfill all specialty medical needs in addition to immediate general medical needs, including acute and chronic illness, gender specific (pelvic, breast, and pap smears), mental health, and preventive care along with coordination of care delivery. The Hematology Oncology Practitioner is accountable to the Chief, Medical Specialty Care Service. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants serve as specialty providers and consultants to panels of veterans with hematological and oncological conditions in VISN 7. Given the volume and complexity of medical problems found in the population of veterans using VA facilities, adequate supervision of nurse practitioners and physicians assistants is necessary to ensure proper decision making towards the goal of optimal patient outcome. Nurse practitioners and physicians assistants caring for cancer patients will have access to a physician from whom timely supervision is expected.
