Medical Technician

Serves as a medical technician and primary autopsy assistant within Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service which supports a large number of veterans population in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center by obtaining venous blood specimens, using knowledge of aseptic technique and phlebotomy material selection (e.g. syringes, butterflies, vacutainer system) and to provide technical assistance and related services to pathologists during autopsies and/or inquest. Duties included not limited to: Assist the medical technologist in a variety of diagnostic tests using procedures ranging from waived testing to moderately complex. Test results support the diagnosis, care and treatment services provided by health care providers from various general medical and surgical specialties. Process, receive and prepares specimens to be sent to outside reference laboratories.
