About the role

The incumbent is a member of the Facilities Department at a Bureau of Prisons'(BOP) federal correctional facility. As supervisor over a welding shop, the incumbent is responsible for the speciality field of welding, through the supervision of inmate workers. The welding shop is involved in the design, manufacture and repair of security devices, metal parts, and equipment. Must supervise and train inmate workers in various phases associated with the construction, repair, maintenance, and renovation of buildings and related structures, grounds, fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of skills within the welding specialty, and other related trades. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
