About the role
This position is located in the office of Internal Affairs (OIA), the entity within the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) with authority and responsibility to monitor and conduct investigations of alleged staff misconduct. The incumbent is required to independently plan and conduct investigations relating to staff improprieties. Many of the cases encountered are criminal in nature, and/or are violations of the BOP standards of Employee Conduct. The incumbent monitors and/or conducts investigations involving allegations of staff misconduct. He or she analyzes data and information received by the OIA concerning such allegations. The incumbent will handle only those extremely difficult cases most suited for a highly experienced investigator. The incumbent assists the Chief, OIA, in the responsibility of developing long—range work plans, programs, and national policy, and determining goals and objectives for the management of a comprehensive system of investigation throughout the BOP.
