About the role
Provide highly specialized nursing care to the complicated obstetrical patients and newborns, and to provide care to the routine obstetrical patient and infant. Utilize advanced nursing assessment skills to identify difficult patient care problems, to formulate complex plans to meet patient care needs, and to continually revise goals and objectives according to changes in maternal/fetal/newborn status. Provide highly specialized nursing care to the complicated and routine postpartum obstetrical patient and newborn as well as the GYN medical/surgical patient. Administer and monitor oxygen therapy and utilize intensive pulmonary care techniques as needed. Respond decisively to changes in maternal/fetal/newborn conditions, providing immediate and appropriate measures according to Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) protocols. Assist in the direction and coordination of unit Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS, and NRP efforts.
