About the role

Duties include but are not limited to the following: Enter patient data, place all ECG leads in their proper position on the patient, run a standard 12-lead EKG. Check ECG to make certain it is of diagnostic quality. This includes checking that all leads (the standard 12 and any additional leads that may be necessary) and calibration pulses are present and make adjustments necessary for eliminating artifact. Appropriate actions for eliminating artifact include. (a) Calming and relaxing the patient in case of muscle artifact. (b) Moving electrical cords in the case of 60 Hz artifacts. (c) Waiting and reapplying electrodes in the case of baseline drift. (d) Asking the patient to breathe easier or hold his/he breath in the case of respiratory artifact. Run a rhythm strip if requested, or if rhythm is abnormal, mark the ECG as to any abnormal circumstances under which the ECG was performed.
