Cartographic Technician

The individual selected for this position will: Perform a variety of fundamental coding tasks in support of branch operations such as geocoding, editing, matching, transcribing, verifying, reviewing, etc. Provide verification and correction of geocoding work by applying rules specific to Census geography to determine the accuracy of coding work and the usage of the appropriate software application. Perform various functions, primarily as a verifier, such as geographical coding, Arc Viewing (GIS), research using geographic reference materials, including paper and digital maps, atlases, zip code directories, automated files, etc., for use in problem solving, geographic allocation, determination of population and housing data, statistical processing, etc. Review various maps and/or automated files for geographic coverage, geographic code, clerical areas and locating, recording and correcting errors on automated data files, zero tiger lines and employer update files.
