About the role

Serves as Station Chief with shift responsibility to direct firefighting activities of the crews, receiving general instructions from supervisor. Plans work schedules and the sequence of operations to ensure an even flow and distribution of work. Directs crews in the performance of various standby duties at the station, including maintenance and inspection of equipment, execution of training, drills and the performance of fire prevention inspections. As Station Chief incumbent plans for sufficient amount of supplies and makes recommendations concerning maintenance or replacement of equipment and the maintenance and safety of facilities. Arrives at the fire with apparatus, operator, and crew, takes charge of the total firefighting operations, determines best utilization of firefighters and equipment for combatting liquid fuel, chemical structural or brush fires.
