MACHINIST (TITLE 32)

Performs a variety of machine operations to manufacture, modify, and repair aircraft parts, support equipment, tools, and assemblies. Fabricates local manufactured items required for aircraft components. Works to close tolerances to prevent cumulative error or the affecting of optical or other properties or characteristics. Performs incidental precision bench and assembly work. Grinds and sharpens tools. Selects tools, jigs, and fixtures required to achieve specific dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes. Performs precision handwork to finish, fit and assemble machined parts. Plans and lays out work. Makes special tools and fixtures, and performs production work of aircraft parts, and works to tolerances that are difficult to attain or hold. Fabricates special items that require nonstandard application of standard equipment. Performs machine setup requiring advanced shop mathematics.
