About the role
Leads the development and coordination of negotiation tactics and strategies to strengthen strategic stability, deterrence, and arms control with Russia, China, and other nations. Ensures U.S. negotiating positions are credible, feasible, and consistent with U.S. nuclear policies, posture, and security. Reviews and addresses key issues that affect policy development and implementation. Prepares briefings and written proposals for top management and acts as a liaison with key Bureau staff, as well as with colleagues in the Department and other agencies. Provides authoritative guidance and recommendations on nuclear arms control, strategic stability, and nuclear weapons issues.
