Pharmacy Technician

Receive individual prescriptions for the full range of pharmaceuticals, to include controlled drugs, to determine kind, strength, and dosage of drugs to be dispensed. Interpret prescription orders for appropriateness and conformity with established standards. Clarify issues or problems concerning dosing, interactions, allergies, or instructions with the provider, pharmacist, or supervisor. Provide information and consultant advice to the prescriber on contraindications, interactions, and side effects. Answer routine inquiries from doctors, nurses, and other medical staff on the availability of specific items, e.g., drugs in stock, new drugs on order, and dosage forms available in the pharmacy. Process prescriptions by data entry and verify prescription orders. Conduct interviews with patients or their caregivers for the purpose of establishing medication history. Set up prescriptions by obtaining correct stock container and calculating quantities.
