About the role
Provide specialized professional nursing care to critically ill patients with cancer, immune system disorders, and blood disorders along the disease continuum from newly diagnosed through end-of-life care. Assist physician as needed in specialized procedures, such as bone marrow, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and accessing ommaya reservoirs. Oversees care delivered by ancillary/allied health personnel. Serves as charge nurse in absence of head nurse. Administer and monitor chemotherapy and other medications. Reviews appropriate laboratory values and diagnostic tests and acts accordingly to notify physicians to hold, modify or continue treatment. Make prompt, appropriate responses and adjusts/stops infusion and intervenes with emergency drug administration as necessary in response to rapidly changing patient conditions. Provide independent/assessment based comprehensive nursing without specific instructions to address underlying co-morbidity affecting treatment such as cardiac/pulmonary
