About the role
This is an entry level position in the structural area and will be responsible for assisting mechanics and journeymen in the ship fitting and welding trades. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: The construction, repair, maintenance, overhaul and conversion of a wide variety of types and sizes of marine crafts and vessels in connection with miscellaneous manufacturing projects performed at the Yard. Using power and hand tools common to the trade, the incumbent performs a variety of less difficult tasks related to ship fitting and welding, such as assisting in layout, fabricating and erecting assemblies, and tack welding framing and foundations Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.
